Jim Opp Highlights List of 2009 Illinois PGA Award Winners
GLENVIEW, Ill. –Jim Opp, PGA head golf professional at Bonnie Dundee Golf Club in Carpentersville, Ill., has been named the 55th recipient of the Illinois PGA Golf Professional of the Year, the highest honor bestowed on a PGA professional.
A member of The PGA of America since 1985, Opp is a native of Chicago who grew up playing baseball and hockey, not golf. He spent his teenage years working in his family’s camera shop, cousin’s hot dog stand and eventually one of Chicago’s premier steakhouses as a cook. It took an invitation to play a round from his stepfather that ignited the passion for the game that he would go on to devote his entire career to.

Four
Members to be Inducted Into Illinois Golf Hall
of Fame
GLENVIEW, Ill. – Industry
leaders Frank Jemsek of Burr Ridge, Ill., and
Steve Lesnik of Winnetka, Ill., head the four-member
2009 class of inductees that also features long-time
golf course superintendent Carl Hopphan of Elmwood
Park, Ill., and former PGA Tour member Chip Beck
of Lake Forest, Ill., all of whom will be enshrined
in the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame.
The inductees will be honored at a ceremony
celebrating their achievements in October at the
Illinois Golf Hall of Fame exhibit located at
the Glen Club in Glenview, Ill.

Illinois
Open Championship Will Return To Hawthorn Woods
Country Club
GLENVIEW, Ill. – Hawthorn
Woods (Ill.) Country Club has been named the site
of the 60th Illinois Open Championship, scheduled
for July 27-29, 2009, the Illinois PGA has announced.
"We're truly excited that Hawthorn Woods
Country Club will host the Illinois Open Championship
again," said Illinois PGA executive director
Michael Miller. "The 2008 Championship was
extremely well-received by the players, and the
golf course proved to be a stern test as evidenced
by the scores throughout the week. The staff and
membership at Hawthorn Woods Country Club provided
tremendous support last year, helping make it one
of the best Illinois Open Championships to date."
This will be the second consecutive year that Hawthorn
Woods Country Club hosts the Illinois Open Championship,
the largest and most prestigious event on the Illinois
PGA calendar. The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill., previously
hosted six consecutive Illinois Open Championships
(2002-2007) and Royal Fox Country Club in St. Charles,
Ill., hosted an Illinois Open record seven Championships
(1991-1995, 2000-2001). Read

Trey
VanDyke Elected 22nd President of the Illinois PGA
GLENVIEW, Ill. – Trey VanDyke
of Riverside, Ill., was recently elected the 22nd
President of The Illinois Professional Golfers'
Association of America by members at the Association's
Fall Annual Meeting. VanDyke previously served as
Secretary of the Illinois PGA from 2004-2006 and
Vice President from 2006-2008.
VanDyke succeeds Terry Russell of Arlington Heights,
Ill., who will continue to serve on the Illinois
PGA Board of Directors as Honorary President.
Succeeding VanDyke as Vice President is Frank
Chieppa of Algonquin, Ill, who served the past
two years as Secretary of the Illinois PGA.
Scott Sandfort of Algonquin, Ill. was elected
Secretary. In addition, four new members of the
Illinois PGA Board of Directors were sworn into
office.
VanDyke, 44, is PGA head golf professional at
Oak Brook (Ill.) Golf Club. A PGA member since
1991, VanDyke began his career in 1987 as an assistant
golf professional at Butler National Golf Club
in Oak Brook, Ill. He remained at Butler National
until 1991 when he accepted his current position
at Oak Brook Golf Club. He has served on numerous
committees over the years including chairman of
the Finance Committee the past two years and chairman
of the Public Relations Committee from 2002-2004.
